As your period approaches, you start feeling down and it seems like depression signs start showing. It is normal to have the blues before and during a period, and that's mostly because of the hormonal changes in your body. Premenstrual cycle, or PMS, makes you feel down. It may also include feelings of extreme depression.
Depression during periods may be the result of heavy bleeding and cramps. If you're always having spots on your trousers, pain in your belly and back, it is normal that you feel depressed every time your period approaches. There are a few things you can do to make yourself feel better. Rely on a balanced diet and eat more fruits and vegetables. Cut out salty foods and drink lots of water. Say no to caffeine and increase your intake of foods rich with calcium and whole grains. Sleep well.
In case of severe and extreme depression, talk to your doctor, as something might be happening, other than just PMS.
