December is here and it’s this time of year to enjoy the season’s best delights! Aren’t you excited!? Well, it's also that time of year when we all indulge in some extra calories and gain weight. Yet, is it possible to enjoy all the mouthwatering treats without putting on any weight? Here are a couple of tips that will help you enjoy all the holiday yumminess without the guilt.

If you’re the one cooking all the delicious meals, then the first thing you’ve got to do is to make some simple changes to your traditional cooking. I know most of us inherited the delightful recipes from our mommies and grannies but you can still get the same sense of taste but much healthier.

-First, you need to start with your shopping; always try to plan your menu ahead of time. That way you know exactly what you’re going to buy. Try to read the food labels and pick up options that are rich in nutrients but low in fats, sugar, salt, and calories.

-While planning your menu, add lighter side dish options instead of heavy ones; and always remember to go for healthy fats! For example, instead of serving pureed potatoes with full fat milk and butter, serve grilled potato wedges with herbs, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. It’s much healthier and still is a delicious choice.

-As for the cooking technique, go for roasting or grilling. For example roast beef, turkey, fish, or seafood are all easily cooked in the oven with a mix of vegetables, potatoes and herbs. So why go for the calorific stuff while you can enjoy them without the panic!?

And what do you do if you’re attending a holiday party? You’re not the one who cooked the meals and you can’t escape the heavy foods! Well, here are some tips that will help you enjoy the party and all the appetizing delicacies.

-Before attending the party, make sure you’re not going there feeling extremely hungry. Have a light snack about half an hour ahead so that you don’t eat the entire buffet! It can simply be a fruit.

-Try not to be tempted by all the choices presented. Pick the ones you know you won’t eat except during this time of year. And pick only one! Oh, and hold a smaller plate, that way you’ll select your favorites in smaller quantities.

-Before wrapping up, the holidays are not just about the food! It’s also about the tons of alcohol and drinks you consume within this period of time. Alcohol & cocktails are loaded with calories. As you can’t escape not holding a glass in your hand, choose lower calorie beverages such as spirit water or light drinks.

Remember, it’s the turkey you need to stuff so stop eating when you feel full.

Wishing you a special holiday with your friends & family and hope this season brings all your wishes into light.

Happy Holidays!
